Gabby’s Horse and Rider Photo Shoot at Formby Beach // May 2018

Gabby won a Photo Shoot with me back in 2017. However, for one reason or another, it was May of this year before it all worked out and I could come and photograph her and her two horses! She decided she wanted to do at least part of her Horse and Rider Photo Shoot at Formby Beach and the other part at her yard. As both locations were nice and close this sounded perfect to me.

We started at the yard as it made it easier to photograph her horse Pip there as well as getting some of both horses together. It was a gorgeous evening for Gabby’s photo shoot and Pip (who I was bound to have a soft spot for as she’s a gorgeous coloured mare!) was an absolute delight to work with! We headed up to her own field for her part of the photo shoot and she was so relaxed (despite a family of noisy and nosy ducks trying to join in!) She has been such a special horse for Gabby and their bond is so clear to see.

Before heading to the beach we embarked on the often tricky task of getting both horses to cooperate simultaneously for a group photo! We had a few moments of ears back and some good face pulling… but managed the end goal of getting both horses to look amazing at the same time and obviously Gabby looked gorgeous in all the shots! Just to add to the mix of horses pulling faces at each other and both trying to snatch the odd mouthful of grass the wind also picked up and attempted to play havoc with Gabby’s skirt…. She somehow remained calm and composed and I don’t think from the end photographs that you would ever guess all of that was going on at once!

After a very successful start to the shoot we popped Laurence in the horse box and set off. Being a youngster we weren’t 100% sure of how he would be on his own but he didn’t put a hoof out of place! We finished the Horse and Rider Photo Shoot at Formby Beach and Pine Woods which was only a short drive from the yard and got some really magical shots of Gabby and Laurence to top the afternoon off with.
