Iโ€™ve had quite a few new followers recently, so I Iโ€™ve had quite a few new followers recently, so I thought Iโ€™d introduce myself properly. Welcome, itโ€™s great to have you here! Iโ€™m Ciara, a Chester photographer and filmmaker, and I photograph families, horses, dogs and small businesses across Cheshire, the North West and North Wales. This is how I got here, itโ€™s been quite a journeyโ€ฆ A little bit about me, originally from County Cork in Ireland, my name (Ciara) causes a lot of confusion!! The simplest way I have found to explain the pronunciation is to lean heavily on Keira Knightley because Ciara is pronounced in the same way as Keira. Suffice to say that is where the comparison endsโ€ฆ. Or is it?! I grew up horse-obsessed (which I can happily credit for the last 13 years of my Photography business) and is a lifelong love, I think itโ€™s fair to say at this stage! Next came the drama queen stage, maybe it is more than just a name thing (@Keira!) I moved to the UK for drama school and the highlight of this short lived career was taking a play to the Edinburgh Fringe. It was so glamorousโ€ฆ There were floors to sleep on, pot noodles to eat, flyers to hand out and strangely, I donโ€™t miss it at all! Somewhere in the middle of all this I took a year and a bit out to do the backpacker thing and that set a few things in motionโ€ฆ Off to South America I headed, with about 3 words of Spanish and a much-too-large rucksack (which somehow got lost on the way!) I got my first decent camera (on account of throwing my prized first digital camera into the piranha-infested waters of the Amazon river) and started to learn a few things. Cont. ๐Ÿ‘‰ My travels sparked something which nearly 20 years later (oh that makes me feel so old!) ok, 18 years later, (still feeling old) hasnโ€™t gone out! I also met my partner on this trip so on reflection it was an excellent life choice! I also developed a deep love for the great outdoors and adventure on this trip. Be it multi-day hikes through the Andes, mountain biking from the snowy plains of Bolivia to the jungle or learning to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, it cemented my love for mountains, adventure and living life a little on the edge (which is a necessary skill for surviving th

Adventuring with kids is by no means an easy task Adventuring with kids is by no means an easy task (As Iโ€™ve discovered myself over the last year and a half) but Katy & Jonny make it look pretty effortless and a whole lot of fun! I met these guys and their two gorgeous little ones last month for a Family Adventure Film + Photo Shoot at Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range in North Wales. Combining stills with film and hiking up a mountain capturing and creating special memories for families is very much my happy place right now! Being out with a family who are doing what they love, allows me to capture them at their most relaxed and happiest. Thereโ€™s no โ€˜posingโ€™ for the camera, no retakes, just a whole lot of intention behind what Iโ€™m aiming to capture and then allowing the morning to flow as it more or less would naturally. I feel itโ€™s a sort of hybrid documentary approach! With a Family Adventure Film + Photo Shoot there is never any pressure to โ€˜reach the summitโ€™ or have a big wow moment, itโ€™s all about capturing time spent together as a family. Being in a beautiful location such as the Clwyd Mountains certainly gives us a stunning backdrop but your local woods can tell just as important a story for you as a family. I can promise you that there was absolutely nothing prompted or scripted about the dialogue between Katy & Lily at the end of the film. When Katy asks Lily what her favourite part of the morning has been and Lily replies, โ€˜being with youโ€™ I realised this is literally the reason Iโ€™m making this move into both working more with families and incorporating filmmaking into my work. This is a moment that Katy will be able to relive and rewatch for the rest of her life and bring her right back to this moment. Yes, life with little ones can be chaotic, itโ€™s full on and can feel overwhelming at times but these moments are what itโ€™s all about. Being able to capture them and preserve them for a lifetime is what my Family Adventure Film + Photo Shoots aim to do.
